Welcome Aboard Steven

METECS is delighted to welcome a new member to our team.  Steven Chen has a Bachelor’s degree in Power Engineering from Dalian University of Technology and a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Rochester Institute of Technology. He has 15 years of experience in simulation, software, and control. Steven worked at Houston Mechatronics Inc (HMI), a robotics start-up company founded by a group of NASA veterans, where he served as robotics system engineer and developed the realtime distributed control framework for the oil and gas industry. Prior to joining HMI, Steven spent 10 years at Navistar Inc, where he served as an engineering senior manager, manager, and development engineer. He led the design and development of the company’s Predictive Cruise Control product that autonomously controls the heavy truck’s longitudinal operation.  Welcome aboard Steven!

METECS Awarded 2 NASA Phase I SBIRs

METECS has been awarded 2 Phase I Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) grants from NASA.

In the first SBIR, titled “Modern Software Technology for Flight Test Automation and Orchestration”, METECS will develop a scalable architectural software framework known as the mREST Automated Test Environment (MATE) which addresses the technical issues commonly associated with flight testing, measurement, and data acquisition by providing comprehensive flight test orchestration and data measurement/acquisition capabilities in both centralized and distributed environments.  MATE has the potential to significantly optimize current flight test methodologies without levying new requirements on each test element.  The Phase I portion of the contract has a value of $122,708 over 6 months.

In the second SBIR, titled “A Flexible Open Interface Standard for Test and Launch Operations”, METECS will generate an interface standard for mREST that can be utilized to solve the issues associated with test and launch operations. This will be accomplished by first doing research into the specific issues that typically arise during the pre-launch process and identifying areas where the existing mREST specification should be expanded and/or refined.  The Phase I portion of the contract has a value of $122,762 over 6 months.

METECS is thrilled to see our mREST customer base expand through the development of application specific interfaces and software tools that take advantage of core mREST technology.
